The leading dating and confidence coach and author of New York Times bestseller Get the Guy shares his wisdom and audience-tested advice on finding love through deep confidence, clear boundaries, and a love for life that leaves you fulfilled both within a relationship and before you've found one. In his first book, Matthew Hussey offered insight into how to "get the guy. "A decade later, he returns to explore the most important relationship of all--the essential foundation for successful romantic partnerships--the relationship we have with ourselves. More than a book about navigating our love lives, Love Life is about the deeper issues our love lives reveal. Love isn't the answer to our problems, Hussey explains. It's a doorway to them; not a way out, but a way in. Like most of us, Hussey has gone through major changes over the past decade, and he shares some of those experiences, vulnerabilities, and mistakes. What happens when we date, fall in love, or when we are faced with loneliness? What decisions do we make that cause us more pain and send us further adrift from what we want? Who hasn't shied away from taking risks because they feared rejection? Who hasn't put up with the wrong behavior because they're afraid of losing someone or of expressing what they really need? Who hasn't lived with the fear and anxiety of not being good enough for their partner? Or knowing their partner isn't good for them, but stay in a bad relationship that is ultimately self-harming? In Love Life Hussey addresses these questions and more. Our love lives hold the uncanny power to elevate or eradicate all the adjacent joy in our lives. The deeper purpose of Love Life is to ensure your love for your life will never be dependent on your relationship status. It's about finding your love for life even while still on the journey to finding your person.

‘The most mind-blowing information on heart disease. . . . I consider this to be the best book I’ve ever read on cardiovascular health.’—Ben Greenfield, New York Times bestselling author Despite what we might think living in a world filled with Covid, cancer, famine and obesity – heart disease remains the number-one killer in the world. There continue to be huge investments in advanced medical procedures and more and more powerful pharmaceutical drugs, but the rate of heart disease continues to rise. As a type 1 diabetic, Dr Stephen Hussey had always known that he was at two to four times greater risk of developing heart disease. As a result, he has dedicated his entire adult life to understanding the heart, to prevent himself from becoming a statistic. Dr Hussey believes that the continued rise in heart disease is due in part to fundamental misunderstandings about how the heart really functions and how to keep it healthy. These misunderstandings can result in improper medical approaches and off-target intervention therapies. Sadly, Dr Hussey’s worst nightmare came true. He suffered a ‘STEMI,’ a blockage in the left anterior descending artery of his heart. STEMIs are typically so fatal that they are known as ‘widowmakers.’ Only 12 per cent of those who experience them outside of a hospital setting survive. Dr Hussey was among the lucky 12 per cent, but faced a difficult decision during his recovery: follow the standard of care laid out for him by the attending cardiologist, or politely decline and apply everything he’d learned about the heart to a recovery protocol that would look massively different than what the doctors were recommending. In Understanding the Heart, Dr Hussey shares the information that guided him through the highest-stakes decision of his life, including: A large body of research suggesting that the heart is not the main mover of blood in the body, and what that means for your overall health The evolutionary origins of the nervous system and how these manifest today in rampant rates of heart disease Deep analysis of the widely accepted idea that saturated fat and cholesterol will clog your arteries The importance of reducing oxidative stress for a heart healthy lifestyle In Understanding the Heart, Dr Stephen Hussey lays bare everything he has learned in his deep investigation into the heart and guides you on a path to prevent disease in the context of a highly diseased modern world in order to enjoy lifelong good health.
Edwin Lutyens was one of the most famous architects of the 20th century. After he died in 1944, three large volumes of his drawings and photographs were commissioned and published by Country Life as a tribute. All three volumes are in the process of being reissued. Having earned his reputation designing domestic buildings, he was soon given scope to expand his practice to the outdoors and to public projects. This second volume contains his extensive contributions to garden design and town planning, as well as the finest examples of his bridges and a selection of monumental civic constructions. These include various university buildings, the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the Washington Embassy and the Viceroy’s Palace in New Delhi. The genius of Lutyens is now universally recognised. In the work featured in this book, we can now see not just the professionalism of a great architect, but also the loving care with which he set down the most minute detail, with the result that this is one of the few books in existence that can be used to provide working drawings. One of Woolf's most experimental novels, The Waves presents six
characters in monologue - from morning until night, from childhood
into old age - against a background of the sea. The result is a
glorious chorus of voices that exists not to remark on the passing
of events but to celebrate the connection between its various
individual parts.
"The Waves" is often regarded as Virginia Woolf's masterpiece,
standing with those few works of twentieth-century literature that
have created unique forms of their own. In deeply poetic prose,
Woolf traces the lives of six children from infancy to death who
fleetingly unite around the unseen figure of a seventh child,
Percival. Allusive and mysterious, "The Waves" yields new treasures
upon each reading.

Originally published in 1981, this second edition built on the success of the first which had established itself as a standard introduction to the poetry of Geoffrey Chaucer. It shows Chaucer not only in the context of his own age, but, more important, as a writer and a man who is still vivid to us so many years later. As well as examining the early poems, Troilus and Criseyde, and The Canterbury Tales the author gives a thorough account of Chaucer's background. He examines the traditions in which he wrote, his audience, and his position among his contemporaries. The second edition was updated throughout and included a number of revisions and additions, in particular on the second part of the Roman de la Rose and on The Knight's Tale.

'Amusing, charming, stimulating, urbane' - THE TIMES 'Revelatory' - GUARDIAN 'Restores Clive Bell vividly to life' - Lucasta Miller ______________ Clive Bell is perhaps better known today for being a Bloomsbury socialite and the husband of artist Vanessa Bell, sister to Virginia Woolf. Yet Bell was a highly important figure in his own right: an internationally renowned art critic who defended daring new forms of expression at a time when Britain was closed off to all things foreign. His groundbreaking book Art brazenly subverted the narratives of art history and cemented his status as the great interpreter of modern art. Bell was also an ardent pacifist and a touchstone for the Wildean values of individual freedoms, and his is a story that leads us into an extraordinary world of intertwined lives, loves and sexualities. For decades, Bell has been an obscure figure, refracted through the wealth of writing on Bloomsbury, but here Mark Hussey brings him to the fore, drawing on personal letters, archives and Bell's own extensive writing. Complete with a cast of famous characters, including Lytton Strachey, T. S. Eliot, Katherine Mansfield, Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, Clive Bell and the Making of Modernism is a fascinating portrait of a man who became one of the pioneering voices in art of his era. Reclaiming Bell's stature among the makers of modernism, Hussey has given us a biography to muse and marvel over - a snapshot of a time and of a man who revelled in and encouraged the shock of the new. 'A book of real substance written with style and panache, copious fresh information and many insights' - Julian Bell
Published in 1967: When first published forty years ago, this now well-known study was regarded as something of a pioneering venture in the field of visual romanticism. Despite susbsequent works on the various aspects of this subject, The Picturesque has always remained the most informative and illuminating historical introduction to the study of visual values as reflected in English literature, painting and lanscaping at the turn of the eighteeth and nineteenth centuries. |
